The Dignità in Campo project was launched in 2018.
Since then, stakeholders have worked together to identify the two experimental territories, Saluzzo and Syracuse, and begun the process of awareness raising, strategic communication, and capacity building. Based on their experiences in the field, stakeholders are developing new ways to support social economies.

Goals
The project began with two key objectives: promote decent work in the agricultural sector and develop concrete solutions to prevent all forms of exploitation.
Territories
The National Steering Committees decided to launch the project in Saluzzo and Syracuse. Direct beneficiaries at the national and local levels include public administration officials, social partners, the private sector, civil society.

Case studies
The team studied four examples of similar and successful projects. Some international and some national, these projects used social innovation to address labour exploitation in agriculture: SIparte-Valbelluna, Vazapp’-Foggia, A box of sea-Levos-Leros, VillageLife-Bucharest, NO CAP, and Funky Tomato.
Pilot
The team identified specific risk factors and examined existing response methods in Saluzzo and Syracuse, as well as adopted best practices to boost the social economy, especially for the most marginalized.

Roadmap
Drafted by local stakeholders in Saluzzo and Syracuse, the roadmap paves the way to the final goal: preventing labour exploitation in agriculture. It also highlights the milestones to be met by local actors, with the support of the ITCILO, along the way.
Communications campaign and documentary
The communications campaign has three key goals: raise awareness about the supply chain, promote sustainable companies, and protect workers. The complementary documentary aims to educate and inform through real-life narratives.

Capacity building and digital platform
Four online courses (Social economy; Approaches and tools for the prevention of labour exploitation in agriculture; Approaches and tools for social innovation; Social enterprise: skills to respond to social challenges) are available. The courses use a blended method of real-time learning and watch-when-you-want webinars.
Documentary production
A documentary film crew traveled to Saluzzo, Syracuse, and Rome to interview national and local representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Confagricoltura, Coldiretti, Flai Cgil, Caritas, Arci, Diaconia Valese, Confcooperative, farm owners, and seasonal workers.

Hackathon with students in Saluzzo and Syracuse
More than 60 students participated in the hackathons in Saluzzo and Syracuse, both held over four days. In each hackathon, the students came up with practical action plans. They suggested building an ethical supply chain, transforming vacant buildings into living spaces for seasonal workers, piloting training programmes for workers and farm owners, engaging with young people through social media and events, and creating groups with specific meeting points to raise awareness about the issue.
Independent evaluation
The report, compiled by the Università di Padova, highlights the importance of prevention when it comes to labour exploitation. Preventative actions should involve consumers, large-scale distributors, employers, and seasonal workers. It also points out that, despite geographical distance and differences between Saluzzo and Syracuse, the causes and mechanisms of labour exploitation are similar.

Guidelines for replication
The project guidelines identify the elements that worked in Saluzzo and Syracuse and provide insight on how to transfer them to other territories. These guidelines will be helpful for public administration officials, social partners, and civil society partners at the national and local levels that are interested in preventing labour exploitation in agriculture.
Final meeting and presentation of documentary and website
On 14 February 2021, all stakeholders participated in the final meeting for the Dignità in Campo project. The team presented previews of the documentary and new website.
